Maintaining Self-Care in College

As a college student, I know how hard it is to take care of yourself. We typically skip meals, stay up late, stress out over more than we need to, and practice many other things that don't help ourselves. I've found it's so important to make self-care a priority, especially in our college years where tend to slide it under the rug. Keep reading to learn about my easy self-care techniques any college student can slip into their routine.

What We Put Into Our Bodies

A lot of the time, us college kids can are prone to not eat enough or to satisfy our hunger in, well, not the healthiest ways. Mental health has a lot to do with maintaining a healthy diet. A healthy diet doesn't mean watching your calories; It actually has a lot to do with consistency. Try to eat small, healthy portions throughout the day. I recommend keeping healthy snack packs on you, like almond and dried fruit packages, or granola bars. These are easy, delicious ways to keep your body satisfied and happy on the daily. Treat yourself to a nice dinner, too. You deserve that.

Another thing the average college student deprives their body of is water. Water is the simplest way to solve most any health problem. Dehydration is so common upon all of the coffee consumption and on-the-go lifestyles. Make sure you stay hydrated and keep the water bottle filled! This will help you feel more lively, healthy, and even clear up your skin.

What We Surround Ourselves With

Our surroundings rub off on us. This can refer to the people we're around, our physical surroundings, or even the music playing in our background. First, cutting out the negative influences in our lives is so important, especially in college. Surround yourselves with people who brighten your day, not those who make things feel heavier. It's okay to distance yourself from people who aren't positive to your life. Second, something as easy as keeping your room clean is maintaining self-care. Living in a messy space is ultimately more stress-provoking. Maintain a clean living space and notice constant relief. Lastly, listen to calming music every once in a while, don't spend every free moment on your phone, and invest in some stress relief products. My favorite stress relief products are Bath & Body Works Pillow Mist in the scent Eucalyptus Mint and Tisserand Aromatherapy Sweet Dreams Roller Ball.

Hopefully, you can find a way to implement these easy tips into your routine. Self-care is so important, and shouldn't be swept under the rug. I hope you are able to maximize your happiness and utilize these techniques to achieve peace in your college life.
